Ateliers Jean Prouvé au MOMA
With all the excitement surrounding today's digital manufacturing technologies, it is interesting to look at an earlier historical moment of workshop mass-production, as practiced by the great French architect and designer Jean Prouvé (1901–1984). This exhibition examines Prouvé's collaborations within his Ateliers Jean Prouvé from idea to finished product. Equipped with a skilled creative team and the most advanced manufacturing technologies available, the Ateliers were laboratories where ideas were continuously refined and adapted to produce furnishings and prefabricated buildings on an industrial scale. The installation focuses on the evolution of the "Standard" Chair and includes other examples of furniture and buildings that demonstrate Prouvé's approach to construction and his sensitive handling of materials—particularly his inventive applications of sheet metal.

French Dance Spring in New York
Six troupes from France will be performing in four different venues this spring, offering Americans a rare opportunity to see the wide diversity of moves from France. With over 40 performances, this will be the largest French contemporary dance event in the U.S. since “France Moves” in 2001.
At the initiative of our U.S. partners, “French Dance Spring” is bringing nine French and American organizations together in an unprecedented homage to French contemporary dance. From May 8 to July 10, and with the support of CulturesFrance, the Joyce Theater, the Dance Theater Workshop, and the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet will present some of France’s leading choreographers—Maguy Marin, Angelin Preljocaj, Dominique Boivin, Thierry Malandain (of the Ballet Biarritz), Heddy Maalem, and Rachid Ouramdane. These six troupes, with their very varied styles, will demonstrate the dynamism of France’s contemporary dance scene, known worldwide for its excellence and creativity and considered by many critics the world’s best and most exciting. As if to emphasize this point, a disconcerting dance performance will probably be held in parks throughout the city in July! Stay tuned for our announcement…
In addition to these performances, the Cultural Services of the Embassy of France, the French Institute-Alliance Française (FIAF) and the New York Public Library will host related exhibits, screenings and conferences, with the support of the Cinémathèque de la Danse and the Centre National de la Danse, during this period.

THE IMMORTAL ALAIN ROBBE-GRILLET
Alain Robbe-Grillet began working as a scientist until deciding, at age 30, to pursue literature. After cementing his reputation in French literature as one of the founders of “Le Nouveau Roman” — he would eventually be named one of the "immortals" of the Academie Française, the anointed protector of the French language — Grillet changed careers yet again, pursuing work as a screenwriter and filmmaker. BAMcinématek celebrates this final career move with a quartet of films Grillet directed as well as his first foray as the screenwriter for Alain Resnais’ enigmatic masterpiece, LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD.
FILMS: L’IMMORTELLE (1963), TRANS-EUROP EXPRESS (1966), THE MAN WHO LIES (L’HOMME QUI MENT) (1968), AND EDEN AND AFTER (L’DEN ET APRES) (1970) Directed by Alain Robbe-Grillet; and LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD (L’ANNÉE DERNIÈRE À MARIENBAD) (1961) Directed by Alain Resnais
