Special Tour : Post-Impressionism at the Barnes Foundation

Who would have thought that the world’s richest stash of Cezannes, Renoirs, Modiglianis, Matisses, Van Goghs, and Picassos has been tucked away in a marvelous mansion surrounded by exotic gardens on a hard-to-find residential street in suburban Philadephia? The Barnes Foundation was established by 1922 by Albert C. Barnes, an eccentric art collector who amassed his fortune by developing an early antimicrobial drug marketed as Argyrol. Today, it houses more than 2500 objects, including 800 paintings estimated to be worth $25 billion dollars.

Post-Impressionism at the Barnes: This in-depth tour explores Van Gogh, Seurat, Gauguin, Rousseau, and their peers in the collection, their inspiration for their work and looks at how they influenced future generations of Modern art masters.

The Barnes Foundation will be relocated from Lower Merion to Philadelphia in 2012. See the collection in its original home before it's too late!
